Wintertime usually means a lot more in-door time for most of us. That equals to less exposure to sunlight, less activity and more eating. All three equal to one common denominator: Winter blues. Instead of just accepting your “inside condition” try doing these three things and see what a difference it will make:
1) Let the sun inside! Open the curtains, shades and window covering. Most of us were taught to close and cover all glass openings to keep “warmth” inside during colder months, but the truth is your windows provide natural sunlight and that produces warmth while also promoting wellness “inside” our homes. Most people suffer from seasonal depression, a reflection of their lack of exposure to sunlight. Even spending 15 minutes a day absorbing natural sunlight through a window your body, mind and spirit will thank you and so will your natural “feel good” D hormone.
2) Eat more beans! The natural protein and complex carbohydrates in beans keep our blood glucose stable longer helping to chase hunger away. They also possess antioxidants that are essential to keeping our bodies healthy, while providing to our body iron, magnesium, potassium, copper and phosphorus. Kidney, lima, pinto, and navy beans are the healthier choices. Consume up to three cups a week to receive the best results.
3) Play music! The benefits of music help stimulate our brain, lifting our mood and increasing our awareness. When we’re feeling down, music helps take our mind elsewhere.
